#12hppofxmas Day 7

Listen, if I haven't made good on all my promises about posts, it's only because I've been trying to get other stuff done. I don't think anyone is paying that much attention anyway, which is why I don't feel too bad about it. Tonight I'm watching one more episode of Grey's Anatomy, putting clean sheets on my bed, and then finishing Foundation because that's how I celebrate this particular holiday.

See you next year!

Current Distractions, December 2014 Edition

Between the Twelve Hectopages of Xmas and the actual holidays, I think my distractions this month are probably pretty obvious.

Other than that, I've mainly just been trying to get my house into some semblance of order. Every day that I'm at home (ish), I try to spend at least ten minutes organizing the spare room that is currently just a giant pile of junk. I have high hopes for the eventual decluttering of that room. I've also spent time thinking about the shelving that I plan to put in my living room, which will get done in the new year, especially since I got a cordless drill for Christmas, and then I'll be able to do a bookshelf tour for the blog. (Ha!)

Really I don't have a lot to say, though, since I've been saying a lot of it on the #12hppofxmas posts.

Now I'm going to go check on what my cats are up to, because there's a suspicious amount of noise coming from the kitchen.

#12hppofxmas Day 5

I have had a fabulously lazy day today, that included reading but not blogging*, for which I'll have to apologize. However, the increasing number on these posts has made me realize that I really need to get my act together if I want my vacation to be productive, and so tomorrow will most likely involve more Getting Things Done. Still, I didn't actually start reading much of anything until this afternoon, and so I think I'll still get a lot of reading and also stuff done tomorrow if I just get started a bit earlier.

On Boxing Day I talked about how I wasn't sure what book to start next, and here's how that went:

From Here to Eternity - This is a List book, so far ahead of the reviews that I've posted that it doesn't even show up in the sidebar, so I guess I should probably queue up some reviews for the new year over this break of mine as well. Anyway, I'd hoped to get to a good stopping point in this book before starting my "readathon," but it reads so slowly that I only finally managed to do that today, after reading about 40 pages over the past couple of days.

Foundation - I've written about this book a bit before. It's way better than I remembered, after reading the first two parts (almost a hundred pages today), and I can't wait to find out who or what The Mule is in the next book in the trilogy.

The Eliot Girls - If you've been paying attention to this blog, you may know that I'm a sucker for anything that involves all-girl environments, because I'm a former Catholic schoolgirl. This is also CanLit, and I'm almost 70 pages in and it's pretty intriguing so far.

Foundation reads at a very good clip, so I'll be alternating parts of that with The Eliot Girls, and then doing the same with Foundation and Empire when I finish either/or of those.

*Honestly the main reason I haven't posted about my stack of books yet is that I'm feeling really lazy about uploading the pictures I took onto my computer. It'll happen before this is all over, though!

#12hppofxmas Day 4

Unbelievably, I haven't read a single page today. I thought that I had a whole bunch of time, and then I remembered that I had an afternoon housewarming party to go to. Hopefully the page count improves this evening. I'm just finishing up Tokyo Vice and then tomorrow I'll be back with a longer post. Eep!

Somehow I have no time to write a post today, but here are the updated page counts!

  • Pages/Day Remaining: 104

#12hppofxmas Day 2

Today is Boxing Day and I didn't get very much accomplished, and tomorrow is my last Christmas get together for the year, but I have several hours before that happens during which I'll probably finish Tokyo Vice and pick up something else (I'm caught between The Eliot Girls, Foundation, and The Confusion, all of which I'll be writing more about either tomorrow or the next day when I finally show you the stack of books I'm working with.*

So far today I've read 101 pages from Tokyo Vice. I've still been finding the book fascinating, and I'll write more about it when it's finished.

*Updated so long after the fact it's comical:

#12hppofxmas Day 1

Merry Christmas, everyone!

To my surprise, I've actually read 102 pages today, and I'm on track to read at least a few more, if I don't end up just watching another episode of Grey's Anatomy instead.

I spent most of the day at my mom's house, where I did a bit of reading after the Christmas presents were opened, and then finished up my reading when I got home this evening.

My current book (I expect that once the holiday days are over, I'll jump around in the books a little bit) is Tokyo Vice, a non-fiction book about a "gaijin" American reporter working in Tokyo. It's really interesting and entertaining.

#12hppofxmas Day 0

Hey everybody!

This is just a quick reminder that the Twelve Hectopages of Xmas starts tomorrow! I'll be trying to post every day for the heck of it, although thanks to the fact that it's Christmastime, I probably won't have much time over the next few days. Enjoy your reading!

Saskatchewan is A Thing: Frosty the Snowman

Welcome to Saskatchewan is A Thing, my compilation of all of the random references to Saskatchewan (Saskatchereferences), which I believe is over-represented when it comes to random references, chasing some of the greats like Timbuktu and Tripoli. If you know of a Saskatchereference that I haven't featured yet, please leave a comment!

Hi everyone! Welcome to this new feature I'm doing that I've been planning forever because this is a thing that I've been noticing for probably two decades now, and also because Sophie's Choice proved that it extends to literature as well as being in movies and tv.

In honour of Christmas, I'm featuring an instance of Saskatchewan being A Thing from the 1969 Frosty the Snowman television special.

As of November 2019, I've updated the video reference below, hopefully it sticks around for longer than the last one! It starts at the beginning of the scene featuring the Saskatchereference.

Saskatchereference Tally: 2
Saskatchereferences per Saskatcheresident: 1/557 085 (2/1 114 170)
