Well, it's been a very successful readathon, mostly thanks to the copious amounts of comics that I've read, but the fact is that almost 850 of the pages I've read so far have been from novels or other things that aren't composed chiefly of pictures. So I've stayed pretty true to the challenge, all things considered.
Probably the main reason I've read so much is that I've been sick all week long. I finally seem to be on the mend today and yesterday, but it was really disappointing that I ended up spending so much of my holiday on the couch instead of doing things I really wanted to do, like going outside, getting a few different kinds of new glasses (prescription safety glasses and sunglasses), and so on.
As far as the change in year goes, I'm excited about 2016. I think it will bring a lot of changes with it, and I'm looking forward to them a lot. Here's hoping that I finally get to spend more than three weeks in my home this year.
Also I read another thing by a woman whose work I haven't read before! (I'm hoping to do a full rundown of all the works that I read over the course of the #12hppofxmas either tomorrow or the next day.)
Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
As I mentioned when I wrote about my stack of books from the library, this webcomic didn't end up on my radar until it had concluded, and I didn't have much of a clue of what it was actually about. (Not a cat, as it turns out, although a cat does appear.) In fact, I'd gotten pretty much everything I knew about Nimona from Cation Design's post about her Nimona cosplay, so maybe that will make the reasons for my confusion clear.
Anyway, I loved this comic! It's actually about a young girl who is actually a shapeshifter who manages to convince a villain to make her his sidekick. Nimona is a bit of a force of nature, though, and soon she's shook up her boss's status quo and drawn the attention of his nemesis and pretty much everyone else. It was really sweet and unexpected and funny and also it combined fantasy with science fictiony stuff, which is a favourite thing of mine. Stevenson's art is great and I loved how all the characters looked, and the way Nimona transforms. I think my only complaint is that I don't like Nimona's hairdo, but honestly that's not a real complaint, it just reveals my narrowmindedness about hairdos.
It looks like you can still read the first three chapters online.
